In March 2018, Lafayette County Dispatch transferred 911 call responsibility to Higginsville Central Dispatch. Lafayette County Dispatch went into a reduced role for the next four years. On January 1, 2023 Lafayette County Dispatch went into full 7 day/24 hour operation again, but not as the 911 call center for Lafayette County. 911 call responsibility is still retained by Higginsville Central Dispatch. Lafayette County Dispatch is solely responsible for dispatching the personnel of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. If a 911 call is received by Higginsville and the responsibility falls under the Sheriff’s Office then the call is transferred to Lafayette County Dispatch.
The dispatch center has the ability to communicate with all the other agencies that operate within Lafayette County and coordinate their responses. The dispatch center also has the ability to inform the residents of possible dangerous events in their area, such as manhunts.
The dispatch center processes all the computer checks requested by the deputies, enters and responds to warrant entries, and is the front line in dealing with the public. The dispatch center handles walk-in traffic to the Sheriff’s Office. The dispatch center also acts as the switchboard for the Sheriff’s Office and is responsible for transferring requests to the correct person within the agency.
